Local Yoga was conceived as a practical way to support Canberrans in the aftermath of the 2020 bushfires and COVID pandemic. Not to be confused with a yoga studio, Local Yoga is a collection of local people, local spaces and local businesses committed to improving our local community’s mental and physical well-being through accessible yoga initiatives that directly raise awareness and support for local community services. Local Yoga provides free fundraising yoga classes – physical and online – in addition to events featuring yoga and live music, as a way to encourage Canberrans to use their own unique abilities to positively influence the space around them.
Our Local Yoga teaches have been practicing for the best part of the last decade, all formally qualified, internationally accredited, with hundreds of hours of formal yoga training. Our instructors' backgrounds are unique amongst yoga teachers, with a diversity of experience in weightlifting, powerlifting, crossfit and gymnastics. Our teachers have experience safely crafting yoga classes for every type of body from public servants and grandparents through to members of the Wallabies and Cirque du Soleil performers. Creating modern and inspired classes that safely draw from schools of yoga including Iyengar, Ashtanga and Power Yoga. Local Yoga teachers convey a sense of belonging that will allow you to safely challenge your perceived physical and mental limitations in an energising yoga practice.
